Leadership "The Jesus Way"

LEADERSHIP "THE JESUS WAY"
LESSON 4 of 4

THE "JESUS WAY"

The church of Jesus Christ which came into existence on the day of Pentecost is still in the world today. It's message and mission is the same: "The whole Gospel to the whole world!"

We need to look at "the Jesus way" of organizing and training our converts, so that our churches will continue to grow and expand. Let us review "the Jesus way," as it pertains to us:

1. We must experience full salvation according to Acts 2:38.

2. We must realize that we are born into the kingdom of God (the church) to become a part of the mission of Jesus. Our mission is the same as His - - the upbuilding and the extension of the church of Jesus Christ on earth. We need to be PEOPLE WITH A MISSION!

3. We need to find our place in the body of Jesus Christ, and be busy for Him according to His calling:

"And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets: and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ" (Ephesus 4:11-13).

a. Jesus Christ is the Head of the church, and as such, He calls and sends forth people to continue the work that He began. To be a part of the five-fold ministry, we must be called and sent of God: "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent . . ." (Romans 10:14-15).

"Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God" (Romans 1:1).

"And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry" (I Timothy 1:12).

b. If a person has a truly ministerial calling, he must preach to be right with God: "For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward . . ." (I Corinthians 9:16-17).

c. ". . . the gifts and callings of God are without repentance" (Romans 11:29). This means that if God has called you into a certain ministry, He will not change His mind. You must obey Him or suffer!

4. We need to make sure we have a right relationship with God:

a. We need to love Him more than everything and everybody (Luke 14:26-33).

b. We must strive to live a life without sin (Ephesians 1:4)

c. We must be subject to Him (James 4:7), and to our leaders (Hebrews 13:17).

5. We must follow the example of Jesus by praying much, and teaching others to pray.

6. If we want an anointed ministry, we must pay the price for it, with much prayer and fasting.

7. We must train leaders:

a. Primary leaders (Jesus trained twelve) will require the most time, because we must spend time alone with them. (The twelve disciples became the twelve apostles, and an important part of the foundation of the church!)

b. Secondary leaders (Jesus trained seventy) will require less time, but will be given lesser responsibility.

c. Everybody has a place in the body of Christ, even if they do not have a specific ministerial (preaching or teaching) calling. We must help all of the believers find their place in the body of Christ!

8. Every leader needs to have at least one person he can open himself to and confess his weaknesses. This will help him overcome his weaknesses. This will also establish a feeling of trust. (Of course, this person must be someone he can really trust in -- someone that will be loyal to him.)

Again, remember all that Jesus accomplished, He did so in 3-1/2 years. Remember also that He is with us in our work for Him. If we choose His ways in all things, we will get great results, also!

"And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following" (Mark 16:20). ds
