Pursuing a double portion

Recently I prepared a batch of muffins for our youngest daughter so she could celebrate her birthday at school with her friends. While I was preparing the ingredients, she came to me and gently whispered, “Momma, could you prepare a double portion so our family can enjoy the leftovers.” As I mixed the batter in the largest bowl I could find, it almost overflowed the edges. I couldn’t help but think of the scripture: Matthew 7:11 “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” God has so many blessings for his children. I can hear His still small voice speaking even now “I am here for you, I want to provide for you, I want to heal you, I want to deliver you & I want to pour out a double portion upon you!”

Sometimes our hearts are too wounded, our minds are too cluttered with concerns of this life, our spirit is too broken with pain, doubt, discouragement to receive the promise of God. Sometimes we are too full of worldliness and have no room for God’s double portion. Jesus said: Matthew 11:28-30 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” When we empty ourselves out through humility, prayer & repentance before the Lord, that is when there will be room in our life for His double portion! (2 Chronicles 7:14) When we learn to give thanks in everything, that is when we can celebrate the joy that comes with His double portion! (1 Thessalonians 5:18) When we decide to praise through the pain, that is when we find the deliverance that comes with God’s double portion! (Acts 16:25) When we remain faithful in the storms of life, that is when we find ourselves in the overflow of His double portion! (Proverbs 28:20 & Psalm 31:23) In Psalm 23:5-6, David understood the importance of the overflow of double portion in his life. We need to pursue a double portion daily through humility, prayer, repentance, thanksgiving, praise and faithfulness!

I don’t want anything to stand in the way of my blessing. A double portion is what I seek. I want that double portion of the Lord to flow over into my husband, children, church and city! The prayer of Elisha is my prayer and should be your prayer also! 2 Kings 2:9 “And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.” If a double portion is your desire... pursue it in Jesus name!
