Let's celebrate the name of Jesus

Matthew 1: 21-23 KJV "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."

The Bible tells us that there is no salvation in any other name. For there is no other name that has been been given to men in heaven and on earth, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12). The name of Jesus is the name above every other name. It is a privilege, not only to know that wonderful name, but only to call upon Him in every circumstance. We are celebrating the name that is above every name in this Christmas season. And when we talk about every other name, we do not only refer to the names that people or things may carry, but we are also talking about the feelings that often influence our behaviour, such as fear, worries, insecurity, uncertainty about the future, sadness, sickness, failure, loneliness, disappointments of all kinds and the list goes on. Christmas reminds us that we can still smile and be confident in all things because regardless of the name that we may give to our condition, the name of Jesus is more powerful and much more stronger. When we call upon that name in a sincere prayer of faith, miracles happen.

This fragile and vulnerable baby that is born in Bethlehem has much more for us than we could possibly imagine. Not only has He come to save us from our sins, but He also has priceless treasures for us to enjoy. In Jesus the Saviour of mankind, we have a peace that surpasses all understanding, an inexhaustible joy in the midst of sorrow, but also healing, comfort, love and above all, the assurance of eternal life. Jesus is a safe anchor and He has more to offer to us than all the gold and silver that this world could ever give us. The birth of Jesus Christ is an unprecedented gift from the God of love and grace to mankind. Whosover draws closer to Him and drinks at its well can start living a meaningful life, and receives life in abundance. Jesus Christ is the Emmanuel, God among us and with us. This baby that Mary is carrying in her arms and that the shepherds worshiped is the Almighty God, the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the One who holds the keys of hell and of death (Revelation 1:18).

The parents of this new born child who humbly comes to the world in a manger obeyed the angel’s command to give Him the name of Jesus, for in the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:9-11). Demons tremble at the name of Jesus and darkness flees to give way to His glorious light. Since we are aware of the glory that is bound to this name, let us once again celebrate Christmas by lifting up the name of Jesus. It is the name above every other name, and its authority cannot be denied. mt
