Who is the enemy?

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 1 Peter 3:8

In the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, Lord Nelson and the British Navy defeated the French and Spanish fleets. It was one of the decesive battles of history.

Before the battle, Lord Nelson came upon two of his officers quarreling on the deck. They were so intent on their argument that they did not notice their admiral approaching. Nelson listened to them for a few moments and then interrupted:

"Gentlemen, I don't know what is in dispute, but this I know: There is only one enemy, and our fight is with him. ''

We are one in the LordEven the most dedicated Christian will differ over minor matters of the faith. But these matters must not become the focal point for arguments. Christians should not be fighting each other. They should fighting the devil. Believers have but one enemy, and he is subtle enough to get them disputing among themselves while he goes about as a roaring lion to destroy souls.

As Christians fight the Lord's battles, may they be sure they don't fight the Lord's people. ww
